Visceral Manipulation

How is Visceral Manipulation used?

Visceral Manipulation is used to locate, solve, and eliminate pain and problems throughout the body. It encourages your own natural mechanisms to: improve the functioning of your organs, dissipate the negative effects of stress, enhance mobility of joints, muscles, bones, and fascia, eliminate connective tissue adherences, reduce and eliminate pain, and influence general metabolism and health.

What can Visceral Manipulation do for me?

Visceral Manipulation assists with imbalances throughout the body including: musculoskeletal, vascular, nervous, urogenital, respiratory, digestive and lymphatic dysfunction. It evaluates and treats the dynamics of motion in relation to organs. Therefore, revitalizing a person and relieving symptoms of pain, dysfunction, and poor posture.

The way our bodies are constructed is that the organs are wrapped in a layer of connective tissue that continues in one big piece attaching to and wrapping around all other structures including organs, muscles, bones, joints, nerves, blood vessels, lymph, etc. Restrictions in these connective tissues or ligaments in one area can manifest in many other areas creating pain, lack of motion, muscle spasm, physiological problems, fatigue, and organ problems.

For example, if you were to wear a tight T-shirt and cinched a part of it in the abdomen, you would feel a pull on your shoulders. This is what happens deeper in the body. One or both of your shoulders are now “out of alignment” and will soon begin to “talk to you.” This could be the beginning of the pain, injury, and disability cascade. Shoulder symptoms will not be rectified until the connective tissue in the abdomen is addressed that is pulling at the shoulders.

When the connective tissue in abdomen is addressed through Visceral Manipulation there will be relief at the shoulders but also at the abdomen. Digestion, metabolism, flexibility, and health will improve as the intestines/abdomen are no longer restricted. Integrative Manual Therapy(IMT) fits perfectly with this technique to aid in addressing and solving the underlying problems.

Connective tissue restrictions attaching to organs can develop in many ways including surgeries, trauma, sports, pregnancy, childbirth, infection, inflammation, injuries, posture, and other things we just call life.

An integrative approach to evaluation and treatment of a patient requires an assessment of the relationships between the viscera, and their facial or ligamentous attachments to the musculoskeletal system. Most often this is the missing link in treatments and why patients don’t find relief.
