Visceral Manipulation

I highly recommend Chris Roberts. He is very skillful at undoing disfunction so the body can work optimally. When the body is working correctly, there is no more pain, stiffness, and achiness, and your body feels loose and relaxed instead of tight. Dynamic Health Physical Therapy and Wellness is not an assembly line physical therapy office. Chris and the other physical therapists work individually with each patient for the full appointment time. Chris is compassionate and empathetic and office manager Anna is friendly and does her job well.

Visceral Manipulation

How is Visceral Manipulation used?

Visceral Manipulation is used to locate, solve, and eliminate pain and problems throughout the body. It encourages your own natural mechanisms to improve the functioning of your organs, dissipate the negative effects of stress, enhance mobility of joints, muscles, bones, and fascia, eliminate connective tissue adherences, reduce and eliminate pain, and influence general metabolism and health. How is Visceral Manipulation used?

Visceral Manipulation is an osteopathic method/technique used to locate and eliminate connective tissue tension patterns throughout the body that are connected to organs.  These connective tissue patterns throughout the body connect the organs to muscles, ligaments, blood vessels, nerves, tendons, and bone. A disruption in these connective tissue patterns can affect anything, from changing the physiological functioning of an organ to lack of movement at a joint, to significant pain.

What can Visceral Manipulation do for me?

The way our bodies are constructed is that the organs are wrapped in a layer of connective tissue that continues and connects to all surrounding structures, including: organs, muscles, bones, joints, nerves, blood vessels, lymph, etc. Restrictions in this connective tissue structure can easily affect any of these structures causing pain and irritation.

For example, if you were to wear a tight T-shirt and cinched a part of it in the abdomen, you would feel a pull on your shoulders. This is what happens deeper in the body. One or both of your shoulders are now “out of alignment” and will soon begin to have symptoms. This could be the beginning of the pain, injury, and disability cascade. Shoulder symptoms will not be rectified until the connective tissue in the abdomen is addressed that is pulling at the shoulders.

When the connective tissue in the abdomen is addressed through Visceral Manipulation there will be relief at the shoulders but also at the abdomen. Digestion, metabolism, flexibility, and health will improve as the abdomen are no longer restricted. Integrative Manual Therapy (IMT) and Myofascial Release (MFR) fit perfectly with this technique to aid in addressing and solving the underlying problems

Connective tissue restrictions attaching to organs can develop in many ways including surgeries, trauma, sports, pregnancy, childbirth, infection, inflammation, injuries, posture, and other things we just call life.

An integrative approach to evaluation and treatment of a patient requires an assessment of the relationships between the viscera, and their fascial or ligamentous attachments to the musculoskeletal system. Most often this is the missing link in treatments and why patients don’t find relief.
